Step 11
Step 11 Promises, Page 88: As we go through the day we pause, when agitated or doubtful, and ask for the right thought or action. We constantly remind ourselves we are no longer running the show, humbly saying to ourselves many times each day “Thy will be done.” We are then in much less danger of excitement, fear, anger, worry, self-pity, or foolish decisions. We become much more efficient. We do not tire so easily, for we are not burning up energy foolishly as we did when we were trying to arrange life to suit ourselves. It works—it really does.

More fantastic Promises from the Big Book, which has never lied to me! By surrendering to my HP and going with the flow, I save a lot of energy. I’m not constantly trying to manipulate people, so life is easier. I didn’t realize how much energy it took until I stopped doing it. This took plenty of practice, because I was of the opinion that if everyone just took my advice, they’d be much better off. Har! Never mind that I couldn’t manage my own life…
Today, I realize that every question or interaction does not require my immediate response (Imagine that! The world does not require my two cents). I can actually pause when agitated and save myself the consequences of my big mouth! I can say, “I’ll get back to you about that” and take time to think of the proper response, and question my motives, instead of flying off the handle and making things worse. Or I might decide that no response from me is needed. In the past, my quick “wit” (smart-ass comments) got me into plenty of trouble. Today, not as much (hey, I’m not perfect!). I’m not trying to control everything and everyone and it’s liberating.
What could be better than having less drama, fear, anger, and self-pity?! These Promises will come true for you, too, if you work for it and stay close to your HP. It just keeps getting better! If I can do it, anyone can.

For someone (me) who became addicted to living in crisis (if there wasn’t one immediately in sight, well I could always make one up!); there are two outstanding things I love …… THY WILL BE DONE and “I’ll get back to you about that”…….to think I can take the time to think of the proper response; question my own motives and, oh my goodness, I COULD DECIDE THAT NO RESPONSE FROM ME IS NEEDED. How right you are…….the world does not need my two cents worth (probably half a cent now!) response to every question or situation that comes my way. Thank you God for your Wisdom so eloquently imparted by R.
Hi Sharon. Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment. Seeking inner peace through prayer and meditation has to be practiced.
