“I tried to log on to my iPAD.
Turns out it was an Etch-a-Sketch and I don’t own an iPAD.
Also, I’m out of vodka.”

Ah, the humor of alcoholism! I’ve wanted to share that joke for some time. As the book says, we are not a glum lot, we absolutely insist upon enjoying life! I was taken aback when I was a newcomer at the laughter in meetings. My God, couldn’t they understand how TRAGIC it was that I was an alcoholic?! This is the worst time ever of my life, and they’re cracking jokes and laughing at some things that sound perfectly terrible to me. Plus I don’t know what they’re talking about half the time.

I’m glad I kept coming back. My laughter returned. My life was given back to me, and I was no longer a shivering denizen in King Alcohol’s mad realm. Freedom, purpose, spirituality – these are things that were sorely lacking in my life, and they were given to me by the program of Alcoholics Anonymous. I’m grateful every day. It works, it really does! R ;-)

Tom shares below…

One of the threads of the meeting this morning was “Claiming your Miracle.”
Once we work the steps, we are free and clear, as the wreckage of the past wafts away. We know “a new joy and a new happiness” !! and… that doesn’t mean that anything has been created… yet.

Nature abhors a vaccuum, and if you don’t create something and put it in the empty space, somebody or something will come along and take the opportunity.
Footwork speaks volumes to those around you; they’ll know you because of what you do, not because of what you say.
“Life is what you say”, says a good friend of mine, and I choose to accept the ME that I am.

To do anything else is simply insanity; choosing THIS, I have the power to then transform whatever doesn’t work about me, with the help of community and in communication with a sponsor and other alcoholics. I choose to be a work in progress.

One lady ended the meeting with sharing “It just keeps getting better and better; AA is the best psychedelic trip I’ve ever been on, the high I chased for all those years!”
Miracle claimed. T.
